Max Westwell

I was born in London Brixton, and began dancing at the age of three. My formal dance training began at the age of ten at the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. I then joined English National Ballet in 2004, and was promoted to First Artist in 2009, Junior Soloist in 2011 and Soloist in 2015.

During my twelve years with English National Ballet, I danced a variety of leading classical roles. Some of the highlights including: Romeo in Nureyev’s Romeo and Juliet, Prince in Wayne Eagling’s Nutcracker, Hans Van Manen’s Trois Gnossiennes, Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort, John Neumeier's Spring and Fall, Principal couple with Tamara Rojo, Liam Scarlett's No Man's Land, McMillan’s Manon: the role of Lescaut. Diago in Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Broken Wings. Akram Khan’s Giselle

After achieving all I wanted in classical ballet, I felt it was time to expand my horizons in to theater and film. I took a leap of faith and auditioned for An American in Paris on the west end. I played the title role of Jerry Mulligan alongside some fantastic Artists like Robbie Fairchild. At this time I worked intensively with acting and vocal coaches expanding my skill set and adapting to a whole new environment. After getting the bug for learning new skills, I was lucky enough to be offered the Swan Stranger in Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake. It was a role that I had only dreamed of performing and I jumped at the chance. Here again I learnt new skills dancing bare foot and enjoying the physicality of contemporary dance. After an amazing world tour ending on Broadway we were thrown in to lockdown. It felt like the natural moment to make the jump completely into film and television. As a child I’d been involved in a few productions but I was always hungry for more experience. After making short films and music videos while I was at English National Ballet with friends a life changing opportunity came along. I was asked to be the main focus in Agony and Ecstasy part two, a one-hour documentary broadcast on BBC4 in March 2011. After the success of the program and being asked to talk on BBC Breakfast and appearing on Harry Hill I knew this was the field I wanted to go towards. I was asked to collaborate with Cillian Murphy on a music video he directed and I choreographed. After leaving English National Ballet the first film production I was involved in was Disney's Nutcracker and The Four Realms where I was partnered with Misty Copeland.

In the past few years, I’ve worked on many fantastic productions acting, dancing and choreographing as well as stunt and wirework. Highlights include Bridgerton seasons two and three, Greatest Days, History of a Pleasure seeker, You, The Nevers, Angela Black, Witcher blood origin.
